Discovery - LP
8.5/10
Discovery's debut album is what exactly you would think it would be: Take the lead singer of Ra Ra Riot and the mastermind behind Vampire Weekend's synths, put them in a studio and tell them to make a record and you get Discovery. The simply titled album, is self indulgent; focusing on beats and claps and distorted pop vocals. However it is very polarizing - a hit or miss type of thing. LP is what I believe is Discovery's take on club music but done their way. It works with its mix of dance beats and ambient sounds and romantic sexy vocals. The best moments on the record are when Wes Miles (Ra Ra Riot) is singing emotionally, in his high pitched voice, espcially on the Jackson 5 cover "I Want You Back". Also expect guest singers Ezra Koening, the lead singer of Vampire Weekend and Angel Deradoorian, from the Dirty Projectors.
Best Tracks: Orange Shirt, Osaka Loop Line, I Want You Back, Can You Discover?
