New Air France

The always cryptic but outstandingly beautiful Air France have a new song. Titled "Gbg Belongs to Us" "A Love Letter in Three Parts" The first part is in text, the second a song and part 3 is a video. Right away you know the song is by the Sweetish band with their unmistakable sound.

Visit the site to read part I and download the track by clicking on part II. However from what I can tell part III is not up yet. Hopefully we can expect a proper full length album from the band soon. Enjoy!

Record Review: YACHT

YACHT - See Mystery Lights

8.8/10

I am probably one of the few people that thoroughly enjoyed YACHT's 2007 album I Believe In You. Your Magic is Real. personally naming it the album of the year. For me, he would have a tough act to follow, but for others not so much. See Mystery Lights is quite different from its predecessor; Jona Bechtolt (the creator of YACHT) has no enlisted the help of his girlfriend Claire L. Evans as apart of the band. Her presents only strengthens the band. Her boyish vocals are unique and refreshing but still cute - something YACHT seems to thrive on. It also feels like Jona has taken a step back and is doing more of the behind the scenes work while Claire takes center stage. The message is different in this album as well. IBINYMIS 's message seemed to be more about material possessions and getting what you want if you want it bad enough and you can do anything you set your mind to. See Mystery Lights is a bit deeper; bringing up death, hell and heaven, the afterlife and government control. While sending their cosmic messages the band still manages to keep things light and fun but album is more serious however - the funny wacky annoying beeps and blips have been greatly minimized and replaced with guitars and drums. It feels more like a real album than "simple" laptop music and most people will take to that but it still has that "YACHT feel" to it. It is a great summer album should stick around for awhile.

New Beck

My all-time favorite musician, Beck (Bek), is up to his genius, creative ways again since his "make your own album art" for The Information. Beck's site has been overhauled with a new project called "Record Club". Essentially, Beck and many other musicians/friends (such as MGMT and Devendra Banhart) will work together to record one entire album in one day. Then, each week Beck will leak a song from the album, on his website. The first album is the indie essential classic, The Velvet Underground & Nico. The first song, "Sunday Morning" is currently on his site. It has been given a Sea Change feel but still feels like a Velvet Underground song. It is some of Beck's best work since Guero. Beck has been in a depressing slump lately (according to the lyrics in his 2008 album Modern Guilt) and this song suits him well and he knocks it out wonderfully. Hopefully, he can keep things alive with the other tracks from the album. I know I can't wait!

New Video - Jenny Lewis

Take a look at Jenny Lewis' new video for "Black Sand" off her 2008 album Acid Tongue. It is pretty much just layered videos of Jenny singing over random clips.

Record Review: The Antlers

The Antlers - Hospice

7.7/10

Hospice is a record that fluently moves throughout the 10 tracks like a melodramatic, hazed induced opera. The Brooklyn band have taken "the best" parts or "moments" that other shoegaze and post-rock bands have produced in their own records. Hospice sounds like a watered down, depressing Broken Social Scene album mixed with vocals that sound like Win Butler, the lead singer of the Arcade Fire. It is clear that the band wants to tell a story with their debut album. The first track starts with "Prologue" and ends with "Epilogue" and is about addiction, illness, confusion and paranoia, death and rebirth. The album as a whole is technical and has its moments with powerful lyrics such as in the song "Atrophy" and bright songs like in "Two".

Record Review: Discovery

Discovery - LP

8.5/10

Discovery's debut album is what exactly you would think it would be: Take the lead singer of Ra Ra Riot and the mastermind behind Vampire Weekend's synths, put them in a studio and tell them to make a record and you get Discovery. The simply titled album, is self indulgent; focusing on beats and claps and distorted pop vocals. However it is very polarizing - a hit or miss type of thing. LP is what I believe is Discovery's take on club music but done their way. It works with its mix of dance beats and ambient sounds and romantic sexy vocals. The best moments on the record are when Wes Miles (Ra Ra Riot) is singing emotionally, in his high pitched voice, espcially on the Jackson 5 cover "I Want You Back". Also expect guest singers Ezra Koening, the lead singer of Vampire Weekend and Angel Deradoorian, from the Dirty Projectors.

New Video - Animal Collective

The newest single "Summertime Clothes", from Animal Collective's critically praised album, Merriweather Post Pavilion is now in video form. Following the outstanding "My Girls", "Summertime Clothes" gets the full works of crazy sculptures, creepy dancers, fog machines and flashing lights. There is no mistaking this is an Animal Collective video. Will "Summertime Clothes" be more successful than its predecessor? Probably not, though the video is better and the song is almost just as good. Either way, its apples and oragnes and this song will be on every summer mix your friends give you.

New Video - The Killers

The new Killers video for their next single, "Dustland Fairytale" is no different from videos like "When You Were Young" and "All These Things" and probably some other of their videos that I cannot recall right now. Anyway, it has some big melodramatic beginning to set the stage; building characters and a plot. This time, the band has ended up in the 1950s in their home state of Nevada (or some other barren state). The cast is some kind of car or motorcycle gang. Anyway, I don't want to give it all away so watch it yourself!

Record Review: Magic Wands

Magic Wands - Magic, Love and Dreams EP
8.6/10
Magic Wands' debut EP only runs a little over 12 minuets long but definitely leaves you wanting more. The short space-pop EP is a dazed, cool and sexy record. All of the songs are cohesive with fuzzy guitars, drum snares and claps, monotone voices and space sound effects that feel like shooting stars blasting above you as you listen to the cool lyrics sung by the duo. To compare to another band they sound like a less experimental Telepathe. Although there are only four songs, each one is a stand out. I can only expect good things from Magic Wands and hopefully their LP will be just as good if not better than Magic, Love and Dreams.

Record Review: Black Eyed Peas

Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D.

7.1/10

Black Eyed Peas have been around for a long time now; always providing us with hits that are still staples on many DJ's playlists around the world. Each album usually comes with some "greater message" that BEP are trying to convey to their listeners, on of a "deeper philosophical" level I guess. From my experience, most people ignore or write that part off and just take BEP for face value - catchy, in-your-face rap dance music.
In BEP's 5th studio album, The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies) it is really no different from anything else they have made. They have a "concept" just like their other albums. However, with The E.N.D. they really try to out due themselves and end up trying too hard. They want to make the album feel like an experience and something so epic and groundbreaking. The problem with this is that, it isn't. It comes off as embarrassing and annoying for the most part, but that can be forgiven when you listen to the songs that should only be taken for face value like the single "Boom Boom Pow." If the band stuck to just knock out hit singles like that and let go of the shtick of them trying to transcend, they would have a really great album on their hands.

New Video - MGMT

The new music video for MGMT's psychedelic, smashing song isn't how I pictured it. Imagine, Beetlejuice on an acid trip with a guest appearance from a pseudo-Britney Spears mom all set in sunny California. It is such a weird/dark song for a great poppy song, but I guess if you really listen to the lyrics, it all makes sense. All I know is this kid is going to be traumatized and have mommy issues the rest of his life.

Record Review: Little Boots

Little Boots- Hands

6/10

Victoria Hesketh has gained much press in the blog-o-sphere since early 2009. Preforming under the moniker Little Boots, Hesketh has created dance and electro-pop songs that were hypnotic and had a retro vibe. However, she faded away into the crowded sidelines of the club (where she belongs) when Lady Gaga came on to the dance, electro and pop scene. Little Boots lacks much of what Lady Gaga has, love or hate her. Gaga has charisma, a point of view and personality. Hands comes off as a generic album, with hardly any stand out songs besides "Remedy." Everything else is a snooze-fest and will keep you off the dance floor this summer.
